Anderson Packaging Announces Another Major Plant Expansion

Anderson Packaging will break ground in May 2000 on a 96,000-square-foot expansion of its Assembly Drive facility in Rockford, Illinois, announced Larry Beckmann, Anderson's president. The location serves as Anderson's corporate headquarters and houses the main operations of the company's Pharmaceutical Division.
When completed at the end of 2000, the facility will occupy 245,000 square feet. The project will include about 9,000 square feet of new office space and more than 76,000 square feet of production, warehouse and storage space.
Ed Hancock, president of the Pharmaceutical Division, said the plant expansion will substantially increase primary and secondary packaging capacity. "Along with the expanded physical plant, we will have additional equipment for every processing function, especially blister packaging, bottling and pouching," he said.
Beckmann said the additional office space will allow all departments - administrative as well as technical, sales and customer service - to grow to satisfy the immediate and ongoing needs of customers. "This is typical of the type of expansion we have undertaken in the past," he noted, adding that the construction marks the third expansion of the Assembly Drive facility in 10 years.
Anderson's expansion was prompted by rapidly growing demand for contract packaging services, according to Hancock. "The pharmaceutical industry is booming, and Anderson is enjoying a widening share of the industry's packaging business," he said. "Our goal is to remain a major force within the industry and at the same time grow at a prudent rate so we always can be responsive and efficient in discharging our responsibilities to our customers."
