Board of Directors Commits $2.5 million to Accommodate Growth
10/1/2001

Anderson Packaging has embarked on a multimillion dollar capital expansion program, marking a significant milestone in the company's continued growth. According to Shawn Reilley, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, "In October, the Board of Directors approved the purchase of $2.5 million worth of new equipment for Anderson's Pharmaceutical Division."

The total investment includes primary packaging equipment (blistering and bottling), secondary packaging equipment (carding and cartoning), and support services at Anderson's 245,000-square-foot headquarters facility.

The capital investment is reflective of the consistent 20% growth which has occurred each of the past three years. Anderson is forecasting a continued growth of 20% per annum over the next three to five years. "We have developed products and made equipment acquisitions with a steadfast focus on the needs of our customers, and have grown consistently as a result," Reilley stated.

Anderson's plan calls for the acquisition and installation of a new Uhlmann UPS 4 thermoformer which will complement the company's eight (8) current high-speed Uhlmann thermoformers. "The added capacity will enable Anderson to produce 500 million blister packages annually," said Reilley.

To support the company's commercial bottle operations, a new "state of the art" rotary label applicator was acquired, thus ensuring highly competitive production rates with outstanding quality.

"Patient Compliance is a growing issue of concern and focus for our entire pharmaceutical customer base. Oftentimes, alternative packaging solutions are required to achieve increased levels of patient compliance. In support of this important development, our Board of Directors included in their Capital Investment Authorization the acquisition of four Blister Carding production lines. This investment will increase our capacity in Blister Carding by over 150%," said Reilley.

Other acquisitions include a new CNC cutting machine to accommodate the heightened demand for in-house tooling. Furthermore, Anderson has taken steps to enhance the quality while reducing the turnaround time for production of sample cards, cartons, and blisters they develop for clients. "We have developed processes that allow us to go from engineering drawings to actual sample products with four-color graphics within three to four days," Reilley stated.

The company expects all of the new machinery to be installed by September 2002. Anderson also anticipates that additional staffing will be required.

"Through the hard work and dedication of our employees, and the support of our customers, we've been able to meet many of our business objectives," Reilley said. "This investment will help us continue to meet our customers' packaging and quality needs and ensure our position as a leader in the pharmaceutical contract packaging industry."
